John Wynn is originally from Florida and grew up on the Gulf Coast in Panama City. He began his musical studies at age 4, which included piano, ukulele, and guitar. By the time he was a teenager, his focus was entirely on the guitar. He moved to Texas in 1989 and opened his guitar studio, which was located Duncanville. He then moved to McKinney and opened a new studio/retail space on the Square in downtown McKinney.
John maintains an active role in the community through workshops and concerts, which are open to the public. His workshops range from the popular “Beatles for Breakfast” to other topics such as altered tunings and music theory.
Studio recitals are often done in retirement homes or other similar venues. His students are also encouraged to be active in music programs at their respective schools.
In 2005 John began self publishing his original materials and study guides through his company, Lone Prairie Music. Keeping things local has made it both rewarding and challenging. Currently, John has a Method book, the Fingerstyle Sketches series, a Holiday music collection for solo and ensemble, Folk/traditional music for solo and ensemble, Igniting the Blues, a guide to scales and chords for guitarists, music theory for guitarists, and a collection of studies in the DADGAD tuning. These are available in either print or electronic format.
Among his happiest moments as a teacher is the fact that several of his long term students have become composers and performers, or teach within the local music store scene.
