Sat - Dec 14 Beth Wood Bring in the Holidays with a Concert at Chestnut Square Monica Issitt John Wynn’s ‘Around the Square’ Concert Series continues with a seasonal flair on Friday, December 14th. For those who have followed this series, the Folk Holiday Performance with Beth Wood is sure to delight, as acoustic guitar playing at its finest will be showcased within the cozy venue of the Bevel House. Beth Wood is a native of Lubbock, but like any folk singer worth their salt, she has traveled and lived in several other places prior to calling Arlington her current home. While growing up in Lubbock, Beth became well versed in piano, violin, harp, and voice, and then took these talents to Brevard College in North Carolina to continue a more intensified study of music. She eventually landed in the Austin music scene, another “must” for many musicians, where she taught herself not only guitar, but bravery, as she ditched her day job and returned to the inspiring beauty of North Carolina to go after a music career with full-time commitment. After creating quite a stir in the Asheville songwriter’s community, she has returned to us, where we can be proud to call her one of this area’s best female singer/songwriters, as she totes an impressive list of awards and contest winnings. Having played in McKinney before, once at a performance in Wynn’s old studio and once with poet, Nathan Brown, during a previous ‘Around the Square’ series, Beth is looking forward to being welcomed back to this charming new blip on the Dallas area music scene. Beth is excited to be a part of the music in McKinney and she gives John Wynn credit for bringing some of that music to us and for “bringing music to life for his students, who will, hopefully, continue to keep music going in this area.” Beth understands the commitment John has for his students, and that this concert series helps him to continue his important work here. Make sure that between the shopping, wrapping, baking, and eating, your family leaves a place for music in their holiday revelry, and come and share a piece of the season with these two exceptional performers. For more information on Beth Wood’s music, visit www.bethwoodmusic.com All proceeds from the 'Around the Square Concert Series' benefit the ‘Outreach through Music’ Scholarship Fund. For more information about the concert or to purchase tickets, please call the McKinney Guitar Studio at (972) 562-3993 Tickets are $20 per person (includes dessert) Friday, December 14th at 7:30 (doors open at 7:00) Bevel House at Chestnut Square 405 S. May 14 Chris
Proctor 7:30
p.m. Concert Critics call Chris Proctor's guitar playing "breathtaking," "haunting," and "rich." They describe his compositions as "spectacular," "elegant," and "exquisite." They trace the roots of his style to folk, jazz, pop, and classical music, and, when all else fails, they try and categorize his playing as "baroque folk." The guitar press compares him to Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges. Another reviewer ventures this analysis: "In his taut, faceted compositions, Chris gives the guitar sole responsibility for a piece's rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic components, and in the process creates full-voiced 'guitar songs.' His playing illuminates the instrument's deepest voices and most sonorous qualities, rendering a pop-folk equivalent of the classical guitar sonata." Visit his website here.

Sep 28 Chris
Proctor 3:00-5:00 p.m. Workshop $25 7:30
p.m. Concert Special deal! Get both workshop and concert for $30 Critics call Chris Proctor's guitar playing "breathtaking," "haunting," and "rich." They describe his compositions as "spectacular," "elegant," and "exquisite." They trace the roots of his style to folk, jazz, pop, and classical music, and, when all else fails, they try and categorize his playing as "baroque folk." The guitar press compares him to Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges.

Mike Mitchell Band in Concert 7:30
p.m. $8.00 Mike Mitchell Band - "...a powerful blend of folk, bluegrass, and pop music. Mitchell's smooth vocals and fiddle playing take center stage but the rest of the band keeps up with his high standards. At their most rollicking Mike Mitchell Band sounds like the Eagles on one of their early acoustic forays. The music runs the gamut from English folk-sounding songs to pure Virginia bluegrass to more jazzy material that revives the idea that a pop song can be experimental and catchy..."
